Research Roundup - What Does the Data Say?

Our survey of the research and polling which has been done in recent years shows there are a few clear winners in the most popular days to get engaged:

#2 - Christmas Day

#3 - Valentine’s Day

#4 - New Years Eve

Let’s take a closer look at some of the individual research findings.

Chilisauce UK

Chances are you probably haven’t heard of the UK event planning company Chilisauce, but media giants such as The Huffington Post & USA Today sure like the results of their huge survey which was published in 2013.

Chilisauce asked more than 10,000 men and women about their engagement experience, and found that more than 50% of proposals came on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or New Year's, with Christmas Eve being the most popular.

Facebook

We all know that Facebook is the largest social network in the world, so you’d assume they have some data, right? You bet.

In 2014, Facebook revealed that more than 2.6 million couples changed their Facebook status to “Engaged” in the prior year.

That’s about as good a data source as you could want!
Can you guess which days they showed as the most popular?

The USA Today

Everyone’s favorite national newspaper recently collected data from a number of sources (some credible and some not so much) including The Knot and celebrity tabloids (seriously) to show why December is the most popular month to get engaged.

They referenced a survey by The Knot of more than 20,000 participants showing 39% of all engagements happening in December.

And for good measure, they also cited examples of many celebrities getting engaged on Christmas Eve including Matthew McConaughey and John Legend
